How does God see me?

Romans 3:10-18 – as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;  THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO
SEEKS FOR GOD;  ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT
EVEN ONE."  "THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING," "THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR
LIPS";  "WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS";  "THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD,  DESTRUCTION AND MISERY
ARE IN THEIR PATHS,  AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN."  "THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES."

Romans 1:18-24 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the
truth in unrighteousness,  because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  For since the
creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what
has been made, so that they are without excuse.  For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they
became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools,  and exchanged the
glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

Romans 1:25-26 – For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is
blessed forever. Amen.  For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for
that which is unnatural,

Romans 1:28-32 – And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those
things which are not proper,  being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they
are gossips,  slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,  without understanding,
untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;  and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of
death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Ephesians 2:1-3 – And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,  in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.  Among them we too all
formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as
the rest.

Surely, this doesn't apply to me!

Romans 3:22-23 – even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;  for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

1 Kings 8:46 – "When they sin against You (for there is no man who does not sin) and You are angry with them and deliver them to an
enemy, so that they take them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near;

Psalms 143:2 – And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no man living is righteous.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 – Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.

Galatians 3:22 – But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those
who believe.

1 John 1:8 – If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:10 – If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

But I'm basically a good person!

Isaiah 64:6-7 – For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither
like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.  There is no one who calls on Your name, Who arouses himself to take hold of
You; For You have hidden Your face from us And have delivered us into the power of our iniquities.

What is the penalty of my sin?

The penalty of sin is death -

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:12 – Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men,
because all sinned –

Spiritual death - separation from God now -

Isaiah 59:1-2 – Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull That it cannot hear.  But your iniquities
have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

Ephesians 2:1 – And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

Ephesians 2:12 – remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to
the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Eternal death - separation from God for eternity -

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 – and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with
His mighty angels in flaming fire,  dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our
Lord Jesus.  These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

Matthew 25:41 – "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared
for the devil and his angels;

Matthew 13:41-42  "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who
commit lawlessness,  and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 22:13 – "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

What has God done to deliver me from the penalty of my sin?

God’s holiness – God could not over-look my sin.  God could not over-look the penalty of my sin.  God’s holiness demanded that the
penalty of my sin be paid.  He had two options – 1)  I, the sinner, could pay the penalty of my sin myself – separated from His presence for
all eternity in what the Bible calls the Lake of Fire;  or 2)  a sinless and perfect Substitute could the pay the penalty of my sin for me.

God’s love provided that sinless and perfect Substitute – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:6 – For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

Romans 5:10 – For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been
reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:3 – For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures,

1 Peter 2:24 – and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His
wounds you were healed.

Isaiah 53:4-6 – Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God,
and afflicted.  But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell
upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.  All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD
has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

What must I do to be saved from the penalty of my sin?

I must repent and put my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ – Acts 20:21 – solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward
God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

What are repentance and faith?  How are they related?

Repentance is simply turning from something.  Faith is simply turning to something or someone.

Acts 14:15 – and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you
that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, WHO MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN
THEM.

Acts 26:18 – to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.'

Acts 26:20 – but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and
even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance.

1 Thessalonians 1:9 – For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols
to serve a living and true God,

Repentance is not a work done to earn salvation.  Repentance is a change of mind that is manifested by a change of behavior.  Since
saving faith is from the heart it will as a result and of necessity involve a change in life and attitude.  This is repentance.  One cannot come
to the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved from sin and to have the penalty of sin paid if one has no intention of forsaking that sin.  If you have
no intention of forsaking sin, then you don't really want or expect the Lord to save you from it or to put to your account the price He paid
to remove sin's penalty.

John 3:16 – "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life.

John 6:28-29 – Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?"  Jesus answered and said to them,
"This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."

John 6:40 – "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will
raise him up on the last day."

1 John 3:23 – This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded
us.

There is no good work that I can perform or act of righteousness that I can do to merit the removal of the penalty of my sin.  It is solely and
completely based on the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.  It is solely and completely an act of God’s grace and mercy.

Ephesians 2:4-5 – But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,  even when we were dead in our
transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;  not as a result of
works, so that no one may boast.

Titus 3:4-5 – But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,  He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which
we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Psalms 51:16-17 – For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering.  The sacrifices of
God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

Galatians 2:21 – "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Romans 3:20 – because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Is there some other way?  NO!

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Acts 4:12 – "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we
must be saved."

Once I repent and put my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the penalty of my sin is removed.  I am forgiven.  I am a child of God.

Psalm 103:2-3  Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;  Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;

Psalm 103:10-12 – He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens
are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed
our transgressions from us.

Isaiah 1:18 – "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

Isaiah 43:25 – "I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

Micah 7:19 – He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of
the sea.

Hebrews 10:17 – "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE."

John 1:12 – But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

Final thoughts.

Two responses –

1)  A response of repentance –

Acts 2:37 – Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall
we do?"

Acts 16:30 – and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

2)  A response of rejection –

Acts 5:33 – But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them.

Acts 7:54 – Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.

Jeremiah 6:16-17 – Thus says the LORD, "Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'  "And I set watchmen over you, saying, 'Listen to the sound of the
trumpet!' But they said, 'We will not listen.'

Consider the patience of God –

Romans 2:4 – Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God
leads you to repentance?

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but
for all to come to repentance.

If the Holy Spirit has been convicting you of your sin and your need to be forgiven, then now is the time to respond.  This is not something to be
put off for another day or for a more convenient time.

2 Corinthians 6:2 – for He says, "AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU, AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU." Behold,
now is "THE ACCEPTABLE TIME," behold, now is "THE DAY OF SALVATION"--

Hebrews 3:15  while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."

You’ve heard the Gospel.  A seed has been planted in your heart.  A choice needs to be considered and made.

Deuteronomy 30:19 – "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the
curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

Hebrews 2:3 – how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to
us by those who heard,
